Plate element in midas
Question:
In midas , how to model the slab as shell element? Is the plate element in midas equivalent to the shell element? How can i modified the plate end release in order to simulate the membrane condition?
Secondly, what option should i restrained for pinned support.
Thanks

Answer:
Hello,
With the Plane stress in the element type, you can simulate the membrane condition. For more information on Plain Stress, refer to the online manual. From the below link.
http://manual.midasuser.com/EN_Common/Gen/865/Start/04_Model/04_Elements/Create_Elements.htm
And you can restrain the structure with pinned support with Define supports via Boundary> Supports by restrain the only displacement for x,y and z direction.
Or using Plate End Release via Boundary> Release/Offset, also you can define the pinned support.
http://manual.midasuser.com/EN_Common/Gen/865/Start/04_Model/06_Boundaries/Plate_End_Release.htm
Thank you.
