Extracting Design Forces from Solids Model

Question:

I recently completed the tutorial titled "Two Column Hammerhead Pier" (http://en.midasuser.com/training/tutorial_read.asp?idx=499&pg=3&so=&sort=&bid=6&nCat=&nCat2=127&bType=&totCount=32). While this is helpful for models with unusual geometry, I am trying to figure out how to extract forces for design purposes. For example, how do I determine the maximum shears and moments in the pier cap or columns? The results section only shows you the stresses in each element. If the stresses vary across a particular cross-section, how can I determine the shears and moments?

Answer:Hello,

To obtain the design forces for such a solid model, the Local Direction Force Sum feature has to be used. Kindly follow the steps provided in the image below to obtain the forces at the required location. In this image, the forces have been obtained at the center of the pier cap.

Hope this helps. Kindly let us know if further assistance would be required.
