Question:

Hi,

Trying to run a model using "Masonry" on the plastic material dialog box. Defining the parameters "Brick Material Properties" , "Bed Joint Material" or "Head Joint Material". But it doesn't allow to change few of the variables. for example:

"Brick Material Properties"- cannot change the Comp. Strength, fc or the Friction angle
"Bed Joint Material"- cannot change the Comp. Strength, fc or the Bond Wrench Strength

Do you know why these parameter appears predefined without the option to be change it?

Thanks

Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for sending your question.
The inactive parameters are not used in the masonry analysis of midas Gen. Therefore you cannot edit them in the Properties dialog. In the future, however, interpretations using this parameters can be developed, so it is indicated. For detailed masonry analysis, please refer to the masonry model in the analysis manual via C:\Program Files\MIDAS\midas Gen\Manual\Analysis Manual.
Thank you.

Hello JiHong Hwang,
Thank you for your response, as always with MIDAS everything is a bit confusing. Speaking from the engineering point of view; don’t fully understand which is the point. Allowing a detailed definition of the masonry's parameters and then don’t allow the changes in some of them.
Nowhere in the online help or the manual that you referred stage the impossibility of change those parameters. Even more important there is not any technical explanation of the reason why this is not allowed or what implication may have on the model.

Kind regards

Hello,

Apologize for your confusion. I agree with your opinion. I've discussed this issue with our engineers, and to avoid confusion, we decided to change the unused parameters in the analysis as invisible.

Thank you.
