Question:

Dear all,

Could you please clarify whether the "Reduction Factor" input are related to the Elastic Analysis of Pile Groups.

This input is requested on the Analysis Control Data, as per image attached.

Do you have any suggestion of correlation that should be used for lateral and axial directions.

Regards

Answer:

Hello,

Info about this option can be found in Analysis manual: Foundation, p.49 (53)

If you have some comments , please let us know.

Piotr

Axial and Lateral does not consider correlation.

Hi Piotr,

Thanks for your response.

I am trying to standardize the terminology used by Soilworks, against Poulos & Davis (1980), as per file attached.

Basically, for pile group analysis, under lateral loadings it is required to consider INTERACTION factors between piles, to obtain the displacements of the pile group.

Additionally there is the REDUCTION factors for deflections and rotations, caused by horizontal loads and moments.

Does Soilworks consider both factors (interaction and reduction), as stated above?

Hi,

Did you attache the paper?

Regards,
Piotr

Hi Piotr,

Yes I did. But it is 7Mb size. Actually it is the whole book.

I am going to try to attach just the chapter (4 Mb).

Hi,

Comparing documentation of SoilWorks and book you sent we are thinking that:

Presented on page 8 group reduction factors looks similar to case presented in sections 3.2 and 3.3.
Presented on page 3 interaction factors are related to section 3.4 in SW manual.

We were talking to development of SW and basically we are thinking you should refer to our Manual and reference papers mentioned inside, rather than from this book.
General concept is similar, but formula(method/approach) is different.

Piotr
