I have run into the following issues with trying to run a non-linear geometric and material non-linearity with Midas Civil. Can you confirm the following and advise on how best to work around.
(1) It appears that Midas civil can only use Plastic Material properties for material non-linearity on User/DB section. This does not allow for the use of any shapes that are not provided in the User/DB tab, since no general section provided is available. (2) it appears than Midas civil can only run non-linear geometric and material non-linearity for plate and beam elements. If we have modeled an arch where the hangers are modeled as truss elements, is there a way around (i.e., use beam elements and apply bending stiffness reduction within section manager)?
Answer:
Hi,
(1) Yes. Non-composite steel section defined from the User/DB section is only supported. (Channel, I-Section, T-Section, Box, Pipe, Rectangle, Round section only.) (2) As you already figured out, bending stiffness reduction is the only workaround.
