Bridge Model > Line and Plate Elements

Question:

Hi,

I am trying to model a bridge superstructure using line elements for the longitudinal girders and modelling the deck as concrete plate elements.

Why is that when I offset the deck to be at the top of the girder (using section offset) I get different bending moment output compared to a case where there are no offsets?

Please advise what the model is doing differently if I try to offset the plate element deck to be at the top of the girder.

Answer:

Hello,

When the section offset feature is used, software basically creates a rigid link connecting the section centroid to the offset location.  Thus, a beam element would behave as if it has 2 rigid short columns at the end.  Kindly refer the description provided below in our online help manual.
Kindly let us know if further assistance would be required.
