Midas Soilworks: Slope Module - Slope Stability (Stages) FOS Results

Creation date: 3/12/2019 2:55 AM    Updated: 3/18/2019 5:23 AM
Question:

Hi,

I am using Soilworks software, Slope module to run analysis of embankment fill stability by construction stages. My question is:

1) Comparison been made between Soilworks and Plaxis for exact model. As shown screenshot below, slope stability FOS results for Soilworks (highlighted in red circle) drastically reduced from initial until final stages of filling embankment and look illogically. But for Plaxis (highlighted in blue rectangle), FOS results also reduced but its look acceptable. Can you clarify that why there are so much difference?

2) There is any function for 'rest period'? so that I can monitor slope stability in times period after filling embankment.

Please assist me.

Thank you.

Answer:

Hi,

I'd like to have Plaxis model file as well.

Please upload Plaxis file if you see this reply.

Hi Mr. Choi,

Kindly you can download Plaxis model files from link below:

Thank You.

Dear Customer,

Please find my comment as below,

1) I saw your Plaxis file and i found that you did slope stability checking with consolidation from your Plaxis analysis so that there is discrepancy of results between Plaxis & Soilworks.

For your information, Soilworks has "soft ground-slope coupled analysis". Please try your analysis case with this function.

You can find how to do the coupled analysis from "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwUszn-FDPs" after 31min(It is from youtobe).

But, please note that this coupled analysis can support "1D consolidation + LEM (Slope stability)" so it will be got the different results when you compare with your Plaxis result.

Because, Plaxis and Soilworks are using different consolidation theory and different slope stability checking method (SRM & LEM respectively).

2) If you are using this coupled analysis function. you can consider "rest period " in your analysis.

And, i attached pdf file "introduction of soft ground-slope coupled analysis" for your reference also.

Hi Mr. Choi,

Thank you for your prompt response. Regarding on 'soft ground-coupled analysis', mean for FEM analysis (SRM method), its cannot support it to check stability and consolidation?

Thank you.

Consolidation (FEM) analysis - Slope (SRM) can't support from soilworks so far.
